The Enterprise Portals Report 2008 looks at... Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SPI

"This is important, because IT often considers MOSS (or at least WSS) as "free," and therefore freely deployable internally. The reality is that uncontrolled proliferation can create the kinds of costs and management headaches IT was hoping to avoid in the first place. "

Another wiki for MOSS 2007

21-Oct-2007

In a well-timed PR move, Microsoft is now trying to push the hype around MOSS 2007 to new heights with a connector from wiki vendor Atlassian to SharePoint. Microsoft released the news at the opening of the sold-out Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, and it has received widespread coverage. Many SharePoint licensees have requested integration with Atlassian and with the new connector, they can use Atlassian inside of MOSS.

You actually now have several wiki options in SharePoint. MOSS 2007 already comes with its own built-in wiki features. Also competing wiki vendor Socialtext has a SharePoint connector which came out in October 2006. So you the buyer now face a classic portal dilemma here: Use the built-in MOSS wiki service or bolt in a best-of-breed alternative like Atlassian or Socialtext. Alternatives are good, but remember that with SharePoint -- as any other portal -- administrators easily get in over their head.
