Oracle's Pluggable Middleware
27-Sep-2005At least one interesting piece of news came out of this week's Oracle OpenWorld. Oracle will begin to offer what it calls "hot-pluggable" middleware. This architecture means that Oracle applications would work within a competitor's portal -- e.g. the IBM's WebSphere -- and vice-versa. Thusfar portal software from the major vendors have only worked with an app server from that same vendor. This new approach from Oracle seems useful for buyers wanting to mix and match according to their needs. Also, the initiative threatens BEA, which does not have neither loyal hardware customers as IBM and Sun, nor loyal database customers as IBM and Oracle.
