Report Excerpt

The Enterprise Search Report 2008 looks at... Fast Serach & Transfer: FAST ESP

"Design choices can have a major impact. For example, whether synonyms are expanded in the indexed document - or looked up at query time - will influence performance on either side. Because of the way ESP functions, it is also known for its relatively large index size; this is often compounded by choices based on responsiveness query-side. "

Our customers say

"I've seen a lot of basic vendor comparison guides, but none of them come close to the technical depth, real-life experience, and hard-hitting critiques that I found in the Enterprise Search Report. When I need the real scoop about vendors, I always turn to CMS Watch.

FAST to buy parent Opticom

10-Dec-2005

Norwegian enterprise search vendor FAST Search has been the center of an ownership struggle involving its parent company, Opticom. An old Wall Street adage cuts through the glacier of rumors: follow the money. Says Fast CEO John Lervik, "Let's face it. There are financial analysts who can see that a stake in Opticom gives the shareholder a chance to cash in on FAST's growth...Where there is a chance for some easy money, there will be...some ill considered behavior. What's going on is just like a sale at New York City's Macy's department store. There is a lot of pushing and shoving. From the edges it's hard to see what's going on." Lervik continues, "To resolve this, we decided today to acquire Opticom. This will settle down the press coverage and we are now entirely back into business as usual." In today's enterprise search market, though, it's tough to know what "usual" means.
